The Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana Project has been instructed to officially hand over the project site to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs by October 31, 2026.
The directive was issued in a letter signed by the sector Minister, Mahama Ayariga, following President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to dissolve the Board.
According to the Ministry, taking control of the site will enable the government to assess and determine the way forward for the National Cathedral project.
The Board has also been asked to work with the project consultant to ensure that all aspects of the handover are completed before the October 31 deadline.
On behalf of President Mahama, the Minister expressed appreciation to members of the dissolved Board for their efforts and commitment to advancing the Christian faith in Ghana.
The latest development comes as the government reviews its options for the National Cathedral project, which has faced years of public debate over its construction, funding and overall management.
