The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, failed to respond to two invitations issued to him in February 2026 to assist with an ongoing investigation.
According to EOCO, the invitations were not honoured, leading the Office to take steps to secure the MP’s attendance in accordance with the law.
The disclosure follows a reported attempt by EOCO officers to take Nana Baffour Awuah into custody at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
In a statement, EOCO said its officers were acting in the course of their official duties when they approached the MP in connection with the investigation.
“The Office had previously invited Hon. Baffour Awuah to assist with the investigation on two occasions in February 2026. The invitations were not honoured,” EOCO stated.
The Office explained that the attempted arrest formed part of measures taken to secure the MP’s attendance after the earlier invitations were not complied with.
EOCO said the arrest was ultimately not completed after the situation escalated and officers determined that proceeding could pose a risk to public safety.
The anti-graft agency further disclosed that it had identified two individuals who allegedly intervened to facilitate the MP’s departure from the scene. Their conduct, EOCO said, is currently being assessed to determine whether further action is warranted.
The Office also confirmed that Nana Baffour Awuah subsequently proceeded to the precincts of Parliament.
EOCO said it recognises and respects the constitutional privileges and immunities enjoyed by Members of Parliament, but stressed that parliamentary membership does not automatically terminate an investigation or place an individual outside the reach of the law.
The Office said the investigation remains ongoing and that it will review the circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s incident, including available video footage, before deciding on its next course of action.
