The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has directed consultants and road agencies to expedite the review and approval of construction designs to minimise delays on road projects.
He proposed that design review meetings be held in a single sitting, bringing contractors, consultants and relevant road agencies together to address proposed changes and resolve technical challenges immediately.
The Minister made the call on Tuesday, September 29, during an inspection of Phases One and Two of the Suame Interchange project.
Mr Agbodza criticised the practice where contractors submit designs and wait for several days or weeks for feedback from consultants and government agencies.
“We don’t have one week to solve this problem. So call them tomorrow or Thursday or Friday. Do the design review at one meeting. Solve the problem on site.”
He further suggested setting up temporary facilities at project sites to enable stakeholders to conduct design reviews and address technical challenges without unnecessary delays.
“In fact, you can just mount a tent here. Mount a tent on the side. Solve the problem on site.”
According to the Minister, conducting design reviews at project sites would give consultants and other stakeholders a clearer understanding of actual site conditions and help ensure that proposed designs are practical and responsive to challenges on the ground.
