The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has denied reports suggesting that sector Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
According to the Ministry, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah remains a member of the GoldBod Board, while his absence from some board engagements should not be interpreted as a sign of disagreement or conflict with the institution.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, the Ministry explained that the Minister initially served on the Board personally before nominating the Ministry’s Chief Director, Marcus Haligah, to represent him in January 2026.
The Ministry said the decision was administrative and was necessitated by the Minister’s demanding schedule and extensive responsibilities.
At the time, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah was overseeing responsibilities across two ministries, making it difficult for him to personally attend all GoldBod board meetings and related engagements.
He subsequently designated Mr Haligah, a senior official of the Ministry, to represent him on the Board in line with GoldBod’s governance framework.
The Ministry noted that the framework permits designated representatives to serve on behalf of board members where applicable.
It has therefore urged the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard reports claiming that the Minister resigned from the GoldBod Board or that his decision to nominate a representative was triggered by disagreements, conflict or dissatisfaction with the institution.
“The Ministry enjoys good working relationship with GoldBod,” the statement said.
The clarification comes amid reports concerning the composition and representation of the GoldBod Board, with the Ministry stressing that the nomination of a representative by the Minister should not be interpreted as a resignation.
