Fire Breaks Out at Accra’s North Industrial Area

A fire has broken out at the North Industrial Area in Accra, with the blaze reportedly intensifying as firefighters work to bring it under control.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026, with thick smoke and flames reportedly seen coming from an area within the industrial enclave.

Two fire tenders have arrived at the scene to fight the blaze, but reports indicate that the fire remains intense.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be established. The extent of damage and whether there are any casualties have also not been confirmed.

An eyewitness said residents were initially unable to determine what had caused the fire, adding that the flames appeared to have intensified as assistance was delayed.

“We do not know what really caused the fire. All we realised is that the fire is burning from up there. We do not have anyone to help, so the fire has escalated,” the eyewitness said.

Meanwhile, another eyewitness claimed that personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service faced difficulties accessing the affected area because some residents were allegedly obstructing their movement.

The eyewitness appealed to residents to clear the way and allow firefighters to reach the affected area.

“Fire Service came to help, yet the residents want to fight them. They should just pave the way for them to pass through, but they are refusing,” the eyewitness said.

Efforts are ongoing to contain the fire, while further details on the cause, damage and possible casualties are awaited.
