EOCO Seeks Weekend Court Appearance for Manhyia South MP

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says it is working with the Office of the Attorney-General to secure a weekend court appearance for the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

The development follows the MP’s voluntary surrender to EOCO on October 1, 2026, at about 10 a.m., in connection with investigations into a GH¢2.2 million payment made to his former law firm for legal services in a matter involving SIC Life.

In a statement issued on October 2, EOCO said Nana Baffour Awuah was cooperating with investigators as the Office continued with the necessary investigative, procedural and operational processes.

The anti-graft agency said it was mindful of the constitutional and procedural requirements governing bail and was therefore working with the Attorney-General’s Office to bring the MP before a court during the weekend.

“Mindful of the applicable constitutional timeframes and procedural requirements governing bail, the Office is fervently working with the Office of the Attorney-General to bring the Suspect before a weekend court,” EOCO stated.

EOCO also dismissed reports that it had granted the MP GH¢50 million bail, urging the public to disregard such claims.

“The Office also wishes to urge the public to disregard media reports that the Office has granted the Suspect a GH¢50 million bail,” the statement said.

Nana Baffour Awuah surrendered to EOCO after the Office secured a warrant for his arrest as part of the ongoing investigation.

His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, had earlier indicated that the MP could spend the night at EOCO while questioning continued.
