John Boadu Elected NPP National Chairman

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has been elected National Chairman of the party at its National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Mr Boadu secured 2,888 votes to win the closely contested race, defeating former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who polled 2,048 votes, and former National Chairman Paul Afoko, who obtained 490 votes.

His election was part of the NPP’s national executive elections, which brought together more than 7,000 delegates to elect officers to nine national positions.

Mr Boadu’s victory followed a last-minute alliance with Sammy Crabbe, who withdrew from the chairmanship contest and endorsed him.

Mr Crabbe announced his decision on Saturday as voting got underway, urging his supporters to back Mr Boadu.

The former General Secretary had also emerged as one of the leading contenders in several pre-election polls conducted ahead of the conference.
