The General Legal Council has admitted 1,568 new lawyers to the Ghana Bar at a ceremony held at the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Teshie, Accra, marking their formal entry into the country’s legal profession.
The newly admitted lawyers have completed the required years of academic study and professional training, paving the way for them to practise law after fulfilling the necessary admission formalities.
Among the notable personalities called to the Bar are Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George; Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah; Media Personalities; Umaru Sanda Amadu and Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku of Citi Fm & TV3 respectively and former Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Acheampong.
The latest batch represents the penultimate group expected to qualify under Ghana’s previous legal education system. Under that arrangement, prospective lawyers were required to obtain a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree before passing an entrance examination to gain admission to the Ghana School of Law for professional training.

Their admission comes at a time when Ghana is undergoing changes to its legal education framework, with efforts to broaden the range of institutions involved in professional legal training.
For the 1,568 candidates, the ceremony represents the culmination of years of academic commitment, practical preparation and professional development.
Their entry into the profession also adds to the body of legal practitioners tasked with upholding the rule of law, protecting legal rights and supporting the administration of justice in Ghana.
