Ato Forson Confident Ghana Will Beat IMF’s 5.7% Growth Forecast

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has expressed optimism that Ghana’s economy will grow beyond the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) revised projection of 5.7% for 2026.

The minister’s remarks follow the IMF’s upward revision of Ghana’s growth forecast from 4.6% in April, representing an increase of 1.1 percentage points.

Reacting to the revised outlook, Dr Ato Forson said the government remained confident in its ability to surpass the new projection, citing its commitment to fiscal discipline and economic reforms.

“The IMF has upgraded Ghana’s 2026 growth forecast from 4.6% to 5.7%. We are confident we will exceed that projection,” he stated.

Dr Ato Forson made the remarks after meeting with the Director of the IMF’s African Department, Zeine Zeidane, on the sidelines of the ongoing IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.

He said discussions with the IMF official provided an opportunity to reaffirm the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal credibility and implementing reforms aimed at sustaining Ghana’s economic recovery.

“In Bangkok, I met with the IMF’s African Department Director, Zeine Zeidane, and reaffirmed our commitment to the fiscal credibility, discipline and bold reforms powering Ghana’s economic turnaround,” he said.

The government’s confidence in exceeding the IMF’s forecast comes as Ghana continues to pursue fiscal consolidation and economic reforms aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability and supporting growth.
