Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has filed fresh defamation suits against Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi and National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) CEO Eric Adjei, following developments in earlier cases involving the two officials.
A statement issued by his lawyer, F. Paa Kwesi Abaidoo, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, said the new suit against Mr Gyamfi, numbered GJ/0045/2027, was filed at the Accra High Court on Thursday, October 15.
The filing follows the High Court’s decision last week to set aside an earlier writ filed by the Minority Leader over alleged defamatory remarks made during the Government Accountability Series.
Mr Abaidoo said his legal team disagreed with the court’s earlier decision but had complied with its latest interpretation of the applicable rules in initiating the fresh action.
“Although we disagree with the High Court’s earlier decision setting aside our client’s previous writ, this new writ has been issued against the Defendants in accordance with the Court’s latest Interpretation of the rules,” the statement said.
The dispute arose from comments made during the Government Accountability Series, following Mr Afenyo-Markin’s criticism of GoldBod and Mr Gyamfi over alleged losses of $1.9 billion under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
Meanwhile, the Minority Leader has also commenced fresh legal action against Mr Adjei over alleged defamatory statements made on Peace FM.
The new suit, numbered GJ/0061/2027, was filed at the Accra High Court hours after Mr Afenyo-Markin withdrew an earlier case against the NEIP chief at the Achimota Circuit Court.
According to Mr Abaidoo, the earlier case was withdrawn following engagements between the parties. Both lawyers informed the court of the development before the presiding judge struck out the matter as withdrawn.
However, the Minority Leader’s counsel clarified that the withdrawal did not amount to an end to the legal dispute, as a fresh writ had been filed at the High Court to pursue the substantive claims.
“Following the discontinuance of the suit of Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin against Mr Eric Adjei, Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) at the Achimota Circuit Court this morning, a fresh writ, Suit No. GJ/0061/2027, has been filed at the Accra High Court this afternoon on the substantive matter of defamatory statements made by Mr Adjei on Peace FM,” the statement said.
Speaking after Tuesday’s proceedings, Mr Adjei’s lawyer, Gideon Koku Abotsi, explained that the withdrawal followed an appeal by the High Court judge for the parties to settle their differences amicably outside court.
The dispute involving Mr Adjei followed his repetition of allegations of extortion against Mr Afenyo-Markin after the Minority Leader’s criticism of GoldBod and Mr Gyamfi over the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
The latest filings signal Mr Afenyo-Markin’s intention to continue pursuing his defamation claims against both Mr Gyamfi and Mr Adjei before the Accra High Court.
