High Court Halts Common Registration Exam for 792 Newly Trained Doctors

The Human Rights Court 2 of the High Court in Accra has issued an interim injunction restraining the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) from enforcing the Stage 1 Common Registration Examination (CRE) as a requirement for the provisional registration of 792 newly trained medical doctors.

The order also bars the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Health from enforcing the requirement pending the hearing of the substantive case and an injunction application on notice filed by the Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations (FGMSA) and the affected graduates.

In a press statement dated Wednesday, October 21, 2026, FGMSA said the court’s decision effectively suspends the examination, which was scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 22.

The examination was a mandatory requirement for the affected doctors to obtain provisional registration and commence their housemanship.

The federation has called on all parties involved to comply with the court’s directive while the legal proceedings continue.

It maintained that decisions affecting the professional careers and future of graduating medical and dental students must be guided by the law, fairness and due process.

FGMSA also expressed gratitude to its legal team, the affected graduating classes, and medical and dental students for their support throughout the process.
