YEA Beneficiary Recruitment Rises by 566.67% Under Malik Basintale

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has recorded a 566.67% increase in beneficiary recruitment since Malik Basintale assumed office as Chief Executive Officer, as the agency intensifies efforts to expand employment opportunities for young Ghanaians.

Speaking at the agency’s Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Mr Basintale said the YEA had registered 100,628 beneficiaries as of September 30, representing 25.7% of its annual target.

He attributed the growth to an expansion in the number of young people accessing employment opportunities through the agency, noting that the figures represented livelihoods and opportunities for young Ghanaians to contribute to national development.

“I’m particularly pleased to announce that since assuming office we have increased beneficiary recruitment 566.67% of the number we met. This represents a remarkable expansion in the number of young Ghanaians accessing employment opportunities through the agency,” he said.

Mr Basintale stressed that the increase went beyond statistics, representing real opportunities for young men and women to improve their livelihoods and participate in the country’s development.

On job security, he disclosed that the agency had secured retention agreements with security agencies to ensure that at least 60% of beneficiaries were absorbed into permanent positions after completing their two-year engagement.

He said the arrangement was designed to transform youth employment initiatives into pathways to sustainable careers rather than temporary interventions to address unemployment.

The YEA chief executive also highlighted the agency’s commitment to ensuring the timely payment of allowances to beneficiaries. While acknowledging that some challenges remained, he emphasised the importance of predictable remuneration in supporting participants throughout their engagement.

Additionally, Mr Basintale announced that the agency was pursuing the development of Jobs Connect, a digital employment platform through a strategic partnership aimed at broadening access to job opportunities in Ghana’s expanding digital economy.
