Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, has petitioned the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts over difficulties he says he has encountered in securing meetings with the authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Maame Efua Houadjeto.
In a letter dated October 22, 2026, a copy of which was cited by Graphic Online, Mr Aggrey said repeated attempts to arrange consultations through the CEO’s secretary or personal assistant had often been unsuccessful, with him being informed that she was unavailable.
Although he acknowledged the demands on the CEO’s schedule, he said the situation had made it difficult to obtain timely guidance, approvals and decisions necessary for the effective performance of his duties.
According to the letter, the communication challenges had contributed to delays in operational activities, stakeholder engagements and the execution of key assignments.
Mr Aggrey, who oversees Marketing and Special Duties, stressed that his petition was not intended as a personal grievance against the CEO but was aimed at drawing attention to a communication gap that required attention to improve institutional efficiency.
He therefore appealed to the sector minister to intervene, with the knowledge of the GTA Board Chairperson, to establish a more effective system of communication and consultation between the CEO’s office and his own, particularly on urgent official matters.
The deputy CEO reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining a professional working relationship with Ms Houadjeto and the wider management team to advance the ministry’s objectives and improve the authority’s performance.
The letter was copied to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the GTA Board Chairperson and the authority’s Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Aggrey was appointed in 2025 as Deputy CEO of the GTA in charge of Marketing and Special Projects. The authority has two other deputy chief executives: Ben Anane Nsiah, responsible for General Services, and Ekow Sampson, in charge of Operations. Both are reported to have worked at the authority for more than 20 years.
