The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has arrived in Obuasi to engage school authorities over allegations of sexual misconduct involving the suspended headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) and some female students.
Her visit comes amid growing public concern over the allegations, which have resulted in the headmaster’s suspension and renewed calls for stronger measures to protect students from abuse within educational institutions.
Before visiting the school, Dr Lartey paid a courtesy call on officials of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, after which she proceeded to meet with the school’s management and students to discuss the matter.
The minister is also expected to visit the alleged victims and their families to gain a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding the case and determine the kind of support they may need.
As part of her visit, Dr Lartey is scheduled to hold a community engagement later in the afternoon, bringing together relevant stakeholders to discuss the allegations and address concerns about student safety, protection and welfare.
She is subsequently expected to brief the media on the outcome of her engagements and communicate the next steps, including possible measures to strengthen safeguards for students and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The allegations involving the suspended headmaster have sparked considerable public discussion, with various stakeholders calling for accountability and improved protection mechanisms to ensure that students are safe within schools.
