Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has filed a defamation suit against New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team member Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, popularly known as Benghazi, and Media General Ghana Limited over allegations linking him romantically to Ghanaian musician Fantana and accusing him of misappropriating public funds.
The legal action follows comments made by Benghazi during a discussion on Onua FM on October 14, 2026, where he described Fantana as the minister’s girlfriend and alleged that Mr Ablakwa had given her money he had allegedly stolen.
“Okudzeto Ablakwa has given all the money he took to Fantana. He is having an affair with Fantana. Ablakwa and his wife will go to jail,” he claimed.
A writ of summons issued by the High Court of Justice in Accra on October 30, 2026, names Mr Ablakwa as the plaintiff, with Benghazi and Media General Ghana Limited, owners and operators of Onua FM and Onua TV, listed as defendants.
The writ, issued under Order 2 Rule 3(1), requires the defendants to enter an appearance within eight days of being served, including the day of service.
It further warns that failure to comply could result in judgment being entered against them without further notice.
“Take notice that in default of your so doing, judgment may be given in your absence without further notice to you,” the writ states.
The allegations reportedly attracted a strong reaction from Fantana and generated public discussion following the broadcast.

Meanwhile, after the lawsuit was filed, Media General issued a retraction and apology through Onua FM, the station on which the disputed comments were made.
The suit brings both Benghazi and Media General before the court over the statements made during the October 14 broadcast.
