The Most Reverend Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith, PhD, Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop of the Church of the Province of West Africa (CPWA), Archbishop of the Internal Province of Ghana and Bishop of the Diocese of Asante Mampong, has proposed the elevation of Venerable Anthony Morkehchie Eiwuley to the title of Very Reverend in recognition of his dedicated and distinguished service to the Church.
The proposal was announced during the ongoing Synod proceedings, where the Archbishop expressed his desire for the Church to formally recognise and appreciate Venerable Eiwuley’s contributions to the Province.
Explaining the proposal, the Archbishop noted that the intended honour was to celebrate his years of commitment and service to the CPWA. He, however, emphasised that the proposal remains subject to a formal resolution by the Synod.
The Archbishop expressed hope that the House would consider and approve the proposal before the conclusion of the Synod, after which the elevation would become official.
A Legacy of Dedicated Service
Venerable Eiwuley has served the Church of the Province of West Africa in the capacity of Provincial Secretary, playing an important role in the administration, governance and institutional continuity of the Province.
His service spans the leadership of six Archbishops and Prelates: Archbishop Justice Ofei Akrofi, Archbishop Tilewa Johnson, Archbishop Daniel Sarfo, Archbishop Jonathan B.B. Hart, Archbishop Cyril Ben-Smith and Archbishop Jacques Boston.
Over the years, he has been recognised for his knowledge of the Church’s canons, constitutional provisions and Anglican traditions, supporting the administrative and governance structures of the Province across successive leadership transitions.
His contribution to the Church also extends to pastoral ministry, having served for more than 24 years within the Anglican Dioceses of Accra and Tema. His parish appointments included Holy Gabriel Anglican Church, Ashaiman; St. Nicholas Anglican Church, Lashibi; St. Monica Anglican Church, Baatsona; and Christ the King Anglican Church, Sakumono, where he concluded his active parish ministry.
Celebrating 70 Years of Life and Ministry
The proposed recognition comes at a significant milestone in Rev’d Canon Eiwuley’s life, following his recent 70th birthday celebration and retirement from active parish ministry.
The occasion brought together family members, clergy, parishioners and well-wishers to celebrate his life and years of service. The Anglican Diocese of Tema, under the leadership of the Rt. Rev’d George Kotei Neequaye, joined in offering prayers of thanksgiving for his ministry and contribution to the Church.
As the Synod considers the Archbishop’s proposal, Rev’d Canon Eiwuley’s years of service stand as a testament to dedication, faithfulness and commitment to the mission and administration of the Anglican Church.
The Church now awaits the Synod’s resolution on the proposed elevation to the title of Very Reverend.
