Dr Bawumia is advocating a threshold-based approach in E-levy implementation – NPP Communicator

Story By: Angelina Tukpe

In a recent appearance on AdoaTv, Mr Seth Offei an NPP communication team member disclosed that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is endorsing a threshold-based strategy for the implementation of E- levy. Ofeis’s statement sheds light on the vice president’s stance on the matter  emphasising the importance of a nuanced approach to the controversial levy

Mr. Offei has pointed out that there are attempts to misrepresent Dr. Bawumia’s policies. These attempts suggest that he is not consistent and does not follow his stated policies. During the Adoa TV show, Mr. Seth stated that the e-levy serves a specific purpose and will likely be removed once Dr. Bawumia assumes power. Seth presented reasons to support this position, questioning the implications of the e-levy, particularly in light of Bawumia’s advocacy for digitalization. This statement contributes to the ongoing debate around the effectiveness and intentions behind the implementation of the e-levy.

Dr Bawumia’s tenure has been characterized by his commitment to finding bold solutions to address Ghana’s challenges. The introduction of the e-levy was intended to serve a specific purpose, and recent economic indicators suggest that progress has been made. Inflation, which stood at 54.2 in November and December of 2022-2023, now stands at 2.2, indicating a positive trend towards normalization. Bawumia’s statement about shifting focus from the private sector to developmental issues reflects his confidence in the trajectory of the economy under his leadership.
