Mr Seth Offei, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s communications team, has refuted the statement made by Mr Frank Ntui Fafa, a communication team member of the NDC, which suggested that the New Patriotic Party leadership has not added any Megawatts to the energy national grid.
Mr. Fafa had hinted on Adoatv that the power outages, commonly referred to as “Dumsor,” have been an issue since the time of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings and have continued through to the current administration. He further added that though the power outages did not originate during the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama, the current President did not add any Megawatts of energy to the National Grid to curb the issue of ‘Dumsor’ like previous governments.
During a recent interview on Adoatv, Mr Frank Ntui Fafa discussed the different approaches that past Ghanaian presidents have taken to address power outages. He mentioned that “during former President Jerry John Rawlings’ tenure, the energy crisis was resolved by adding 450 megawatts of energy to the national grid. On the other hand, former President Kuffour requested ‘Men of God’ to pray at the dam site to bring rain, which subsequently added 80 megawatts to the grid. Under the late President John Evans Atta Mills’ regime, TICO 3&4 added some megawatts to the grid, and before his passing, the Aburi Dam project added 250 megawatts. During Former President Mahama’s tenure, over 3,000 megawatts were added to the energy sector. It was however expected of the current President to do the same, but he has not done so in the past 7 years”.
Meanwhile, according to Mr Seth Offei, the President has however recently commissioned the Laura solar power supply on October 12, 2020, which added some megawatts of energy to the National Grid. He also added that the commissioning of the Kaleo solar power added some megawatts to the energy as well.
